Ann Leahy’s Scholarships Guide

The Guide is a summary of contact numbers and website addresses for scholarships at major universities, agricultural colleges, training and apprenticeship information, and a listing of scholarships in a range of areas such as rural industry, veterinary, medicine, pharmacy, teaching, sport, engineering and the arts. Get Started Vouchers – Round 11

Voucher applications open on 24th January 2018 and provide up to $150 to those who can least afford to join a sport or recreation club. The predominate eligibility criteria for the program is for the child/young person, or the parent, guardian or carer, to hold a valid Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card with the child/young person’s name on it. If there are significant issues that prevent the parent/carer/guardian from applying, a referral agent may apply on their behalf. Tackling Tough Times Together – Round 9 – closing date extended

Applications close on 12th January 2018.  This grant program helps communities access the resources they need to support one another through the ongoing effects of drought.  Grants of up to $20,000 are available to eligible organisations in local government areas that are drought declared.  Expressions of interest are invited for a small number of higher valued grants for larger-scale and multi-year projects that have a broader impact.  Funding will support community-based activities that both help to relieve current stressors and symptoms, but most importantly, build capacity and resilience for the future.  Funds could also support activities that engage people in being active, exploring options and creating something that will stand the test of tough times.  For more information contact Jacki Dimond at the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal by email: toughtimes@frrr.org.au; Ph 1800 170 020, Ann Leahy’s Electorate Office Ph 1800 625 430 or visit www.frrr.org.au;

 

National Shed Development Program – Australian Men’s Shed Association – Round 16

Closing on Friday, 8th December 2017.  Individual Men’s Sheds can apply for a range of financial support across the following categories:  1. Tools, Equipment, Community Projects & Training to a maximum of $5,000; 2. Building Maintenance & Development to a maximum of $7,500 and 3. ANZ Staff Foundation Grants

Closing on Monday, 15th January 2018 applications can be made for grants of up to $5,000  for community projects that relate to one or more of the following areas: Education and employment, Urban and rural economic and social divides, Improving financial literacy or money management, Urban sustainability through environmental education or revegetation programs.  Organisations must be charitable, and have Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Item 1 status in order to apply for an ANZ Staff Foundation grant. Queensland Young Achiever Awards

The Queensland Young Achiever Awards are now open. The purpose of the Awards is to acknowledge, encourage and most importantly promote the positive achievements of all young people up to the age of 29 years from throughout Queensland. The Award categories are: Regional Achiever; Arts and Fashion; Online Achievement; Leadership; Aboriginal Achievement; Community Volunteer; Create Change;  and Small Business Achiever.  All category winners receive $2,000 each, while one of the seven category winners will be chosen Overall Queensland Young Achiever of the Year, winning an additional $2,000. The SunSmart Shade Creation Initiative Grant Scheme

Designed to assist organisations who have limited funds to increase sun protection. The scheme provides grants to not-for-profit community organisations and schools. Details of the grant scheme for 2018 are yet to be finalised, however it is expected to open at the beginning of the 2018 school year when there will be an application period of approximately 6 – 8 weeks. Norman Wettenhall Foundation – Small Environmental Grants Scheme 

The next round opens on Tuesday, 12th December 2017 and offers varying amounts in support of groups or individuals undertaking projects that will make a positive difference to the natural living environment, in land, sea or air, rural or urban. Projects meeting eligibility criteria around flora and fauna conservation, threatened mammal conservation, and landscape restoration and education will be favourably received and should involve any of the following:-  monitoring, recording and sharing data;  delivering community education;  providing community capacity building (e.g. skills training, organisation);   research and science. Queensland Anzac Centenary Grants – Lasting Legacies Round 6

Queensland Anzac Centenary Grant – Spirit of Service – Round 5

Online applications will open on 16th October 2017 for projects under $20,000 commemorating the Australian centenary of the First World War, and the outstanding service and sacrifice of Queensland’s men and women. The Courier Mail Children’s Fund

Offering financial support to charitable organisations throughout Queensland to help them meet the needs of children with special needs, matching funds raised by successful applicants. The Sidney Myer Fund and the Myer Foundation Small Grants Program

Supports initiatives targeting the following groups: communities experiencing social and economic exclusion with particular emphasis on Indigenous Australians, asylum seekers and refugees, and people living in isolated rural and remote areas of Australia, children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who lack the opportunity to improve their wellbeing. The program supports small, discreet projects that meet the needs of a community rather than supplementary funding for large projects. Farm Management Grants – Succession Planning Rebates

Access to rebates of up to $2500 are now available to help tackle family business and succession planning costs.   Professional advice in relation to succession planning, or a family member wanting to acquire an interest in the family business, can apply for a rebate of up to 50% of fees paid for the advice, with a maximum of $2500 per applicant, per financial year.  Advice must come from a suitably qualified professional adviser such as an accountant, financial planner or solicitor. Maranoa Regional Council’s Community Support Service provides individual and community support by linking people to services, acting as an information resource, coordinating community education courses and developing community projects.

We provide:

  • Information and support about what services are available in Roma and surrounding communities
  • Support and referral
  • Information and education opportunities on relevant issues
  • Client advocacy in line with identified needs
  • Funding information available to individuals and community groups
  • Assistance with the submission of forms, online applications, providing & sourcing information and referring to other services where appropriate.

The program also coordinates and assists with the Roma Inter-agency Meetings and the Service Provider Directory.
