The experience of carers is often overlooked, and rural carers may experience particular challenges in their efforts to care for their loved one. This research will provide much needed insight and understanding of the particular experience rural carers have and will contribute to the body of literature in this area.
I am specifically hoping to reach carers in rural QLD communities who are caring for someone with a mental health condition/psychosocial disability, and who may be under the NDIS, considering the NDIS, not wanting to join the NDIS, or have been deemed ineligible.
The project involves a 1-hour interview via teleconference at the carer’s convenience and is conducted as part of a Masters thesis for a Clinical Psychology student at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba.

My Learning Passport is designed to support people with intellectual or learning disability to get ready for the NDIS. It is based on the successful face to face Plan ahead workshops, delivered around Queensland in 2015, for QDN’s Ready to go project, an NDIS Participant Readiness activity funded by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.
The series of 8 short videos features presentations by two peer facilitators Sam Matheson and Kane Wojicicki, graphic animation and activities, fun and games along the way. Participants will learn about the Pathways to the NDIS, choice and control, the life domains, the planning conversation, what is reasonable and necessary and managing their plan.
Participants can learn at their own pace, on their own, or with the help of a family member, friend or support person.
My Learning Passport resources include a participant workbook and supporter’s guide. Audio versions and DVDs are also available.
You can watch the videos and find all resources on our website.
