Seniors Month
Maranoa supports and celebrates Queensland Seniors Month each year, organising a range of activities to facilitate community participation and recognise the important contribution older people make in their families and communities.
Seniors Month includes United Nations International Day of Older Persons (1 October) and National Grandparents Day (27 October).
Councillor Johanne Hancock, Portfolio Chair for Economic Development and Events said this is just one of the regions ways to thank our seniors for the essential roles they play to our towns.
“This month provides us an opportunity to give back to our seniors and celebrate the tremendous impact they continue to make, while enhancing community connections and fostering intergenerational connections,” Cr Hancock said.
“Council has put together a great program for this year, with seniors able to enjoy a variety of activities together.”
Among the exciting program of events, the Health Communities Team from South West Hospital and Health Service are hosting a hands-on cooking class designed for seniors. Learn how to create delicious, budget friendly meals perfect for 1-2 people.
